Luytens’ Triangular Shelter

img-1.php

The attractive triangular stone structure opposite the Post Office was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for Lady Horner as a memorial to her son Mark who died in 1908. Lady Horner had water from the manor supply piped to various points around the village in memory of her son and the interior of the shelter bears an inscription For the use of Mells Village in Memory of Mark Horner 1908 designed by Eric Gill, the famous typographer.
